New and old work

I have been working to get some quilts completed to enter the Reflections exhibit to be held at Red Rocks Community College.  The new one is in progress called Reflections upon Reflections.

The old one is “Branching Out”.  This is a detail shot only.

Aspen and Evergreen Gallery

I have submitted 3 art quilts to Aspen and Evergreen Gallery  in Estes Park!  They will sell my art work and split the selling price with me 50-50.  It is a beautiful gallery full of works by Colorado artists.  cam02764

You will note the leaf above is pinned on, so this was a work in progress when the photo was done.  Now I just need to sew on the hanging sleeve and deliver the piece to the gallery.

Eco Printing on to fabric

I have been working on creating a quilt using some leaves I eco-prined onto linen.  I was also trying to rust the fabric at the same time and added vinegar.  This resulted in an overall gray color.  But I did get some interesting print images with eucalyptus leaves and some tiny blossoms.  cam02764

Self-Portrait

My fortune cookie says:  “Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it.  Autograph your work with excellence.”  In contemplation, this is something I want to be cognizant of and make my artwork show my intention.  I work intuitively, but want to have the work be meaningful and mindful.  I am seeking beauty and am compelled to create something that never existed before.  I love to see viewers drawn to my art and know that they appreciate the thought and work put into it.  I need to be more willing to reveal myself through my work.  Now I can think of each piece as a self-portrait.

sun blast

This is  a photo of a courtyard in Albuquerque, NM.  The sunlight seems to beacon you to enter through the open gate.  Follow the light!  Maybe it is time to do a fiber self-portrait….

Quote on perception

A quote from physicist David Bohm:

“Reality is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe. What we believe is based upon our perceptions. What we perceive depends on what we look for. What we look for depends on what we think. What we think depends on what we perceive. What we perceive determines what we believe. What we believe determines what we take to be true. What we take to be true is our reality.”

This was in reference to a discussion on original thought, original artwork and the uniqueness of an artist’s creativity.  Some say there is nothing original left to create; it is all derivative.  Others believe in the stamp of the individual:  their thoughts, memories, and experiences are all unique and therefore original.

Portfolio 2017 – Best of 2016

I got the email!  My quilt, “Midstream” was selected to represent Front Range Contemporary Quilters in their online exhibit available world wide.  This was my 3rd year to enter and so I guess it is true about that “charm” thing!  The Portfolio 2017 will be displayed for one full year.  My quilt will exist in cyber space right next to Patty Hawkins, Regina Benson, Ronnie Hunter, Bev Haring and Susan Brooks to name only a few fantastic artists!  midstream-full_1
