World Art Drop Day

Tuesday, September 2, 2025 is drop art day. Check out #dropartdenver2025 to see clues where you can find artwork for free. Have fun exploring your neighborhood to discover new art for your walls! I will be dropping 4 artworks in Arvada. Check out “Art Drop Denver” on Facebook or @suzqvb for clues to the locations. Mark your calendar for the Arvada Center in December’s Fine Art Market for more of my artwork. See below starting on the left: Frayed Edges, See It Through, Rhythms, and After the Rain.

Sun Printing with Turmeric

These are called anthotypes which involve mixing turmeric with rubbing alcohol (I used 70%), painting that solution on paper or fabric. Once dry, place plants on the surface and cover with glass or plexiglass and place in direct sunlight for 1 – 3 hours. Remove your masks and rinse in water mixed with baking soda or Borax. Some printed yellow and some red, depending on how much turmeric was involved. Major drawback: these will fade eventually, so take photo images you could then use as greeting cards. Check out details on Google.

Depot Art Gallery Exhibit 2025

I have just been notified that my work, “Becoming Undone”, has been accepted into Fiber Art Colorado’s exhibit at the Depot Art Gallery. Event dates are September 9 – October 11, 2025. The Depot is located at 2069 W Powers Ave in Littleton, CO. The gallery is housed in a restored 1888 train depot. It’s a fun destination, so put it on your calendar for a visit this coming fall! (Last year’s exhibit was a little earlier).

Encaustic Favorites

I have been taking an online class with Laly Mille, titled “Layers of Light”. We take burlap and cover it with joint compound or plaster and then add encaustic and create compositions on them. First on the left is Holding the Moment, next is A Fallen Leaf, then On Gentle Wings, and finally Captured Moments

Paper Collages

These are on 6″ x 6″ deep canvases in preparation for the Arvada’s Fine Art Market 2025. I have used original photography, molding paste, printing, stamping, painting and weaving techniques for these collages. Titles for these starting with the upper left: “Searching”, “Cut, Weave, Tear”, “Dots and Butterfly”, and “Notes from the Field” at the bottom in a shadow box frame. There will be spirit dolls and art quilts, also. Yes, thinking of Christmas in July!

Weaving Softness

Just finished a weaving that needed a background in order to hang it on the wall. I sewed it onto an old quilted piece after painting it with a white acrylic wash to soften the look. Let me know what you think. I have used yarn, twisted fabric, threads, rusted linen, tissue, lace and gold tulle. Added poppy seed pods, as well with an organza ribbon.

Paper Vase

The vase below began with 2 sheets of handmade paper molded on a jar. Once dry, I added artist’s bleeding tissue, paper pulp and tarlatan. I glued the two pieces together and added a base to the bottom. I also added some molding paste, a clay ornament and 3 sticks wrapped with a decorative napkin and blue thread from my sister’s collection of spools. Also, see some more paper bowls with cheesecloth, stitches and yarn added along with the wet strength artist’s paper. The yellow one with the twig is made with paper pulp molded in a bowl, yellow rose petals, thread, a wool felted “stone” and a twig dipped in wax. White yarn was dipped in matte medium to stiffen it and then adhered to the rim.
