Solo Show of Fiber Art
I hung 18 quilts at my work place today and already sold one quilt! It was fun to see my work displayed. So may compliments that I was almost blushing! I displayed there about 3 years ago and sold 10 quilts. Hopefully, I will sell some more and make some money to invest in more art supplies.
Here is the blue ribbon! I even received the check for winning 1st place in the mail today. Not really a blue Monday for me!

Blue Ribbon for Fiber Art
I was thrilled to see a blue ribbon placed next to my quilt, “Midstream” at the Estes Park Art Center. Doing the happy dance!

Autumn thoughts
Leaves gently falling
Soft as a whisper landing
Quiet solitude
I love autumn leaves. It is my favorite time of year. Whenever I see a leaf falling to the ground, I feel blessed to have seen that descent. Yes, I realize it symbolizes an ending, deterioration and even death. But the colors are magnificent against the bright blue sky. The cool breeze envelopes me like a caress and the warmth of the sun kisses my cheek.

Estes Park Art Center
My quilt named “Midstream” has been juried into an art exhibit at the Estes Park Art Center. “Lines into Shapes” will open October 29th and run through November 12th. If you are in that area, please stop by to see the exhibit which includes paintings, photography, sculpture and fiber art.

I have submitted 3 quilts to “Layered Voices”, which is a national quilt exhibit put together by Studio Art Quilters Association. Top left is “Yesterday’s Voices”, right top is “Dreams in Abundance” and the bottom quilt is called “A Time for Apple Trees”.
Human Marks
Just completed a 4 day workshop with Dorothy Caldwell. It was a very talented group of artists learning about making marks, stitches, and book binding. Such fun we had! Ok, the last two shown here at the bottom are for inspiration: rust. I’m so glad I learned how to bind a book by hand.
See below for a 3″ x 3.5″ book I made over the weekend.

Art Quilts at “Rejuvenation” Exhibit

This quilt was juried into an exhibit at the First United Methodist Church in Boulder through September 24th, by Vickie Carlson. The exhibit includes artists from Front Range Contemporary Quilters.
Journey Map
My map details a recent trip to New Mexico to visit my childhood friend in Albuquerque. This journey lead me to two quilts. We enjoyed the balloon festival, fabulous food, the art museum, the Indian Cultural Center, shopping and a scenic train ride. The highlight was visiting El Santuario de Chimayo in Chimayo, NM, which was built in 1816. It has a sacred atmosphere and the tradition of soil with healing power. The back wall of the sanctuary has crutches and braces left behind and pictures of people testifying to cures. There are lots of handmade white crosses placed in the surrounding ground. I took a photo of some sunflowers placed there which I transferred to fabric and made into 2 quilts. One was sold at a solo show and one became a gift for our host and hostess. I have so many photos from this trip that are future quilts. There is a certain richness to the culture with all the patterns and colors used that speaks to my heart and my art making.

Haiku for today
This haiku is on the quilt I’m working on for a show called “Layered Voices”. It has some poems and quotes from my grandfather’s writing and some haiku’s I composed.

A heavy rainstorm broke off some hydrangea blossoms, so my best option was to take a photo. Good enough to eat!

Newest quilt is called “Words Unspoken”:
Thought words unspoken
Love, good-by, forgiven go
Perfect moments pass

Paper “Fabric”
I used painted newsprint torn and stitched onto hand painted and stamped canvas for this unfinished piece below. I added stitched fabric and some brightly colored potpourri to give it more texture and zip! This was inspired by another project from my Creative Summer Camp.
